Close friends of ours hosted their beautiful destination wedding in Captiva Island at a local resort. Once we learned of the location, I went online to find out if there was any way to book with points. I was unsuccessful in finding a points option for booking rooms at the resort. We had the option to bunk with another couple, but by the time we made the decision to go, we were too late!

Location: Chicago, IL to Captiva Island, FL
Travelers: 2 Adults and 1 lap-child
Length: 4 days and 3 nights
Flights: Spirit – 44,050 UR ($660.76)
Lodging: 22,000 HH + $232.97 Capital One travel credit
Transportation: Turo – $238.18 Sapphire Reserve travel credit

I assume some of you may frown on this, but we did book a Spirit flight with an infant! Honestly, it wasn’t bad! We waited too long to book our flights and Spirit had the best pricing for the dates we needed to be there. So we did a little reading and made sure to fit everything we needed inside our two backpacks and the diaper bag.

For our hotel, we stayed just off of Captiva Island in Cape Coral, FL at a Hampton Inn. Instead of walking to our rooms at the resort like the rest of the guests, we had a 20 minute commute in a yellow convertible Camaro!

The distance from the resort wasn’t far. The reason it took a bit longer is due to the 20 MPH speed limits on the island itself. We also received a room upgrade to a mini-suite due to having diamond status with Hilton.

Transactions Summary

All in all, it was a great mini-vacation to a wonderful destination wedding in Captiva Island, FL!

The main costs out of our pocket for this trip was our food. Even that was only a couple of lunches since breakfast was free at the hotel.

The flight was paid for in UR points.

The hotel was a combination of HH points and a travel credit. That travel credit came from a reward balance we had on an old Capital One Visa Platinum. Our Turo was even wiped out by using part of our $300 credit on a Sapphire Reserve.
