I typically wouldn’t document a work trip, but due to travel rewards, I was able to bring my wife and daughter along for a wonderful trip to Myrtle Beach. While I worked, they got to hang out at a beachfront hotel and enjoy the warmer weather.

First, I talked to my employer and they were okay with me booking a ticket in my wife’s name instead of mine. I did this because the companion pass is in her name. We didn’t have company cards at this time, so we were allowed to book fares on our own CCs. Instead of booking using a CC, I booked using a LUV voucher from my previous Denver trip.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront and this was my view for breakfast. Because of being a Diamond member, our room was upgraded to an oceanfront suite with two bedrooms and a full kitchen.
Strategic timeshare presentation
One of the things I recommend doing, if you have the time, is to take advantage of the timeshare presentation. I only recommend this if you can say NO to high-pressure sales. I believe the original offer was for 25,000 HH points and we talked them into giving us 35,000 HH to see the presentation. We traded about 2.5 hours of our time for the equivalent of a free night at a Hilton hotel.
The weather wasn’t the warmest and I was technically there to work, but we did manage to take a ride on the SkyWheel. I’d recommend it to anyone new to the area or just looking for some cool photos of the beachline.
Check out Bimini’s if you get a chance! The place was packed and they had some great food!
